Here are five Super Bowl LV props to put your money on.
Super Bowl Sunday is the best day of the year in my opinion. Not because it's the NFL championship, but because it has turned into a legitimate gambling holiday. With sports gambling becoming legal over the past year in many states, sportsbooks could set records come Feb. 7 as they offer all kinds of fun props that everyone will want to get in on to wrap up the NFL season. How long will the national anthem last? Which team will record the first sack? Who calls the first timeout? It adds an entirely new element to the Super Bowl broadcast.
I have been looking over all of the Super Bowl props offered by William Hill Sportsbook and have identified five that I'm going to put money on. Some will be your normal game props such as Over/Under on a wideout's receptions or running back's rushing yards, but others will be inconsequential to the game itself. Let's go ahead and jump in.

1. Coin Toss: Heads or Tails.
Tails (-101)
Some people love coin toss props and others hate them. On one hand, it's pure luck and you can't claim to have a good read on what will happen, but at the same time, wouldn't it be great to start off the Super Bowl with a win? As SportsLine points out, tails has been the winning coin toss in two straight and six of the past seven Super Bowls. Overall, tails has been the winning coin toss 29 times and heads 25.
My motto has always been "tails never fails," and I once encountered a detractor who claimed my narrative was statistically incorrect. Right then and there, I pulled out a quarter and said, "tails will come up more times than heads if I flip it 10 times." Sure enough, tails won six to four. The detractor wasn't convinced that I had proved my theory, but you can't argue with the fact that tails has won two straight times in the Super Bowl. Ride with me. Join the movement.

2. Tyreek Hill total receiving yards.
Over 93.5 (-115)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will surely be game-planning on how to stop the speedy Hill, but I'm starting to wonder if that's even possible. In the Kansas City Chiefs' divisional round matchup against the Cleveland Browns, he caught eight passes for 110 yards, and then exploded for 172 yards on nine catches in the conference championship game. It marked Hill's third straight postseason game with more than 100 receiving yards! In the Chiefs' Week 12 meeting with the Buccaneers, Hill had what was the best game of his career. He went off for 269 yards and three scores on 13 touches through the air, and no one could stop him. One of my predictions for Super Bowl LV is that Hill wins Super Bowl MVP. I'm not going to empty my bank account on that prop, but I will take the Over on his receiving yards.
3. Team to record first sack.
It's true that Chiefs left tackle Eric Fisher suffered a torn Achilles in the AFC Championship Game and fellow tackle Mitchell Schwartz is already on injured reserve with a back injury, but I'm thinking about taking the Chiefs to record the first sack on Super Bowl Sunday. Patrick Mahomes has been sacked just once this postseason while Tom Brady has been sacked five times in three playoff games. Mahomes is more mobile than Brady, which means he is more willing to attempt to escape the clutches of pursuing defenders, while Brady has shown on more than one occasion this season that he's fine with going down and looking towards the next play.
4. Will both teams lead in the first half?
I like this prop a lot. Last postseason, the Chiefs trailed by double digits in all three playoff games but came back to win by double digits. We also saw the Buffalo Bills go up nine points against the Chiefs in the conference championship game last Sunday. I can see the Buccaneers scoring first with a field goal and then the Chiefs answer with a touchdown. Boom, that's money in your pocket. This prop hit in last year's Super Bowl and I think it will again.
5. First pass by Tom Brady will be:
Complete (-180)
Sometimes the juice is worth the squeeze. Brady is making his 10th Super Bowl appearance, which is the most all-time, and he has won six, which is the most all-time by any player. He typically thrives in these big games and will want to get things rolling from the first time the Buccaneers touch the ball. Brady has completed his first passing attempt in three out of the past four games including in two straight games now. Put some money in your pocket early in this game and take Brady to complete his first passing attempt.

Eight days remain until kickoff at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. for Super Bowl LV between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the “Bucs and Chiefs enter critical phase of COVID precautions. Any player or coach with a positive test beginning today will be ruled out for the Super Bowl. Same protocols as regular season. Game on without key players if positive.”
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Super Bowl will look and sound unlike anything we’ve ever witnessed. Per the NFL, “in the interest of health and safety for all involved, Super Bowl Opening Night will be conducted virtually from the participating teams’ home cities. Nine players from each participating team, alongside their head coach will take part in virtual Opening Night festivities.”
On top of that, NFL vice president of communications Brian McCarthy says that “Continuing what some of the NFL clubs did this yr at #SBLV with ‘Fans in the Stands’. cutout program. Deets here on how to upload your photo to be printed out and placed in a seat. Net proceeds go to Feeding Tampa Bay and City Year in KC.”
Only about 14,500 in paid attendance will be allowed into the stadium for the game on Sunday, Feb. 7.

The best prop bets for Super Bowl 55.
The Westgate SuperBook and William Hill’s sportsbook on Thursday released their long lists of Super Bowl prop bets, which in Las Vegas has become something of a cherished Super Bowl bye week tradition.
Westgate’s prop book has grown to such heft that it contains a table of contents, with bets that are both straightforward (the point spread, the total) and wildly esoteric (which will be more: the number of Stanley Cup playoff wins by the Colorado Avalanche or Super Bowl points by Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker). If you can’t find a bet worth making, you probably aren’t looking hard enough. (For the most basic bet, take the Buccaneers and the points.)
We combed through the lists to find Super Bowl prop bets worth your consideration, with their picks below in bold. Note: The listed odds were taken from the prop sheets handed out by the books Thursday and may fluctuate as we get closer to kickoff.
For the uninitiated, negative odds denote the favorite (minus-110 means you would wager $110 to win $100), while positive odds denote the underdog (plus-110 means you would wager $100 to win $110).
Will there be a two-point conversion attempt? (Westgate)
Though this prop didn’t hit in last year’s game, a team has gone for two in eight of the past 11 Super Bowls. And even though neither team went for two all that much in the regular season � both tried only twice, with the Chiefs converting both attempts and the Bucs failing each time � the final-game desperation makes this plus-money bet one worth looking at. Tampa Bay also went for two in the second quarter of its first-round game against Washington, failing to convert.

Will there be a missed extra point? (William Hill)
Since the distance on extra points was pushed back in 2015, NFL kickers have hit 6,875 of 7,328 extra-point attempts for a success rate of 93.8 percent. That has improved slightly in the postseason, with kickers successful on 286 of 302 tries (94.7 percent). Tampa Bay kicker Ryan Succop and his Kansas City counterpart, Harrison Butker, have lagged a bit with rates of 92 and 90 percent, which makes the “yes” side enticing.

This has become one of the more reliable props in recent Super Bowl history � the heavy juice on “yes” reflects that � because the games have been close: The last true blowout took place seven years ago in Super Bowl XLVIII, when the Seahawks scored a 43-8 win over the Broncos. The six Super Bowls since have been decided by an average of 8.8 points, and each of those games featured a score in the final 3½ minutes. (And last year there were two.) This prop has hit in 22 of the past 27 Super Bowls, and with just a 3½-point spread, another close game could be at hand this year.

What will happen first? (WH)
Tampa Bay scored before it punted in 10 of 19 games, including four of its last five heading into the Super Bowl. Kansas City allowed a score before a punt in 10 of 18 games, including its last three. At least one team has scored on its opening drive in 10 of the past 14 Super Bowls, and the Chiefs gave up a field goal on the 49ers’ opening drive last year.

This one is predicated on the assumption that it only will hit if there’s a defensive pass interference penalty on a long pass play, and neither team has any particularly striking deep threat. Among the pass-catchers in this game, Tampa Bay’s Scotty Miller is tops in average depth of target at 16 yards per target (ninth in the NFL during the regular season), and Kansas City’s Tyreek Hill is next at 12.9 (tied for 30th). Combine that with Tom Brady’s aging arm (20.6 percent of his passes were considered bad throws this season, fourth worst in the league), the Chiefs’ quick-strike offense (Patrick Mahomes ranked just 13th in intended air yards per attempt) and the fact that the Bucs were flagged for DPI only eight times, and the under is worth a look.

Tyrann Mathieu total tackles (solo plus assists) -120.
The Washington Capitals face the Philadelphia Flyers on Super Bowl Sunday and the Great Eight is averaging a career-low 3.3 shots per game this season. The Flyers are one of the worst teams at suppressing shots at even strength this year, allowing 34 shots per 60 minutes at even strength, and Philadelphia also surrenders the 10th-highest rate of shots on the penalty kill, playing into one of Ovechkin’s strengths, but this still seems like the losing side. Mathieu averaged four tackles per game during the regular season and has 13 tackles in two playoff games. He has missed only four tackles all season.

First offensive play of the game (WH)
Tampa Bay and Kansas City ran the ball often on their first plays of the game. The Chiefs ran the ball 13 of 18 times, and the Bucs handed it off 11 of 19 times. That’s a run rate of 65 percent on their initial first and 10, which implies a money line of -185, making the -150 being offered decent value.

Total sacks by the Buccaneers’ defense (WH)
Tampa Bay generated the third-highest pressure rate in the NFL during the regular season (27 percent), with the sixth-highest sack rate after adjusting for strength of schedule. Shaquil Barrett led all edge rushers with 76 pressures (sacks, hits and hurries), and the linebacker was credited with the third-highest pressure total (26) at his position per Pro Football Focus.
The Bucs have registered seven sacks in three playoff matchups, including five against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship game.
