п»їNATA-BOC Practice Test.
In order to receive certification, an individual must complete a CAATE accredited athletic training education program. The program director of the CAATE accredited education program must confirm that the individual is eligible to sit for the exam. The exam can be taken during the final semester prior to graduation.
How do I register to take the exam?
What is the cost of the exam?
A one-time application fee is required. The application fee for NATA members is $35. The fee for non-NATA members is $60. Once the application is approved, an exam fee for first-time candidates and retake candidates is $330.
Where do I take the exam?
All NATA-BOC exams are administered by Castle Worldwide testing centers. Testing centers are located at various cities throughout the United States. At the time of registration, the candidate will select the date, time, and location of their exam.
How many questions are on the exam and what format is used for the questions?
The computer-administered NATA-BOC exam consists of 175 questions in various formats. Some questions will instruct you to choose a single correct answer, other questions will ask you to select all correct options, and some questions may require you to drag and drop answers. Some questions will consist of a given scenario followed by 5 questions related to that scenario. Individuals should read each question carefully to understand the instructions for that particular question.
How much time will I have to complete the exam?
The exam must be completed within 4 hours.
What content is found on the NATA-BOC exam?
Questions on the exam fall into one of the 5 established content domains:
Injury and Illness Prevention and Wellness Promotion 19.8% Examination, Assessment and Diagnosis 24.3% Immediate and Emergency Care 15.5% Therapeutic Intervention 27.4% Healthcare Administration and Professional Responsibility 13%
How is the exam scored?
The exam is scored by Castle Worldwide. Each exam includes some experimental questions which are not scored; however, these questions are not distinguished from the actual test questions so all questions should be answered. Partial credit is given for correct answers to questions with multiple correct answers. The minimum passing score is 500 on a scale from 200 to 800.
When will I receive my score?
What if I do not achieve a passing score?
If a passing score is not achieved, the individual may schedule a retake on BOC Centralв„ў. Another application fee is not required to retake the exam but the exam fee is required. Individuals who fail the exam should register for the next available exam window.
How can I best prepare to take the exam?

Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) Calculator.
This Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) calculator assesses the severity of symptoms experienced in the past week and monitors OCD evolution. You can find more information about the scale and the extra symptom checklist below the form.
Other Tools You May Find Useful.
в– Personality Disorder Test.
в– Mental Disorder Test.
How does this Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) calculator work?
This is a health tool that evaluates the severity and type of OCD characteristic symptoms in patients. It is a self report scale, therefore the patient is let to personally assess the presence and intensity of the symptoms. The interpretation of the result and any additions are then left at the clinical judgment of the assessor.
The scale was built by Wayne K Goodman and fellow researchers in 1989, in the attempt to develop a severity diagnosis and a monitoring tool.
Before beginning the interview, the evaluator is advised to define both the concept of compulsions and that of obsessions to the patient and provide some examples, for further reference. The recommended definitions are:
в– Obsessions are unwelcome and distressing ideas, thoughts, images or impulses that repeatedly enter your mind. They may seem to occur against your will. They may be repugnant to you, you may recognize them as senseless, and they may not fit your personality.
в– Compulsions, on the other hand, are behaviors or acts that you feel driven to perform although you may recognize them as senseless or excessive. At times, you may try to resist doing them but this may prove difficult. You may experience anxiety that does not diminish until the behavior is completed.
The ten questions in the scale are focused on the main effect and life quality alteration due to the presence of the mental health disturbance:
1. Time occupied by obsessive thoughts.
2. Interference due to obsessive thoughts.
3. Distress associated with obsessive behavior.
4. Resistance against obsessions.
5. Degree of control over obsessive thoughts.
6. Amount of time spent performing compulsive behaviors.
7. Interference due to compulsive behaviors.
8. Distress associated with compulsive behavior.
9. Resistance against compulsions.
10. Degree of control over compulsive behavior.
Score interpretation.
There are 10 questions in the Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) calculator that aim at interpreting the symptoms in the time period of a week.
The evaluator is advised to interview the patient by asking the questions in the order they are provided as well as listing the choices of answers. Each answer is awarded a number of points, ranging from 0 for the least intensity to 4 for the highest severity that will form the total result at the end.
There are two partial scores given as well, one summing the scores of questions 1 to 5 (for obsessions) and the second summing the scores from items 6 to 10 (for compulsions).
The total score interpretation is as follows:
Score Level of OCD 0 - 7 Sub clinical 8 - 15 Mild 16 - 23 Moderate 24 - 31 Severe 32 - 40 Extreme.
The higher the patient rates in either of the components, the more significant the negative impact of the present symptoms on the quality of life and interpersonal relations.
Y-BOCS Symptom Checklist.
The following lists comprise of all the types of obsessions currently met and diagnosed in patients all over the world. Diagnosis of OCD.
As with any mental health diagnosis , obsessive compulsive assessments are used in the primary setting to check the symptoms the patient experiences then a full psychological evaluation is performed. Many people suffering from this condition in either minor or debilitating severities don’t report their symptoms because of either shame or lack of attention to their real extent.
Therefore the primary diagnosis is often delayed until people close to the person raise signs of alarm or until the symptoms worsen and the patient realizes they need medical help.
The three levels of severity that are mainly used in classifying the diagnosis are:
■Mild functional impairment – symptom manifestation less than an hour per day in general;
■Moderate functional impairment – obsessive, compulsive behaviors manifested for almost three hours a day;
■Severe functional impairment – thinking and behavioral patterns disrupting daily activities and significant with the condition for more than three hours a day.

The BOC, in adherence with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA, 1990, updated 2010), reasonable and appropriate accommodations are provided for qualified individuals with a disability who supply appropriate documentation. The BOC follows the guidelines set forth in the Council on Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation (CLEAR) and Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE). The BOC does not discriminate against any individual on the basis of religion, gender, ethnic background or physical disability.
Reasonable Accommodations.
Reasonable accommodations provide disabled candidates with a fair and equal opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skill in the essential functions being measured by the exam. Reasonable accommodations are decided on the basis of the individual’s specific request, disability, documentation submitted and the appropriateness of the request.
Reasonable accommodations do not include steps that fundamentally alter the purpose or nature of the exam. The most frequent requests involve providing the candidate with extended time, a reader, a writer and/or a separate room.
Qualified Individual with a Disability.
A “qualified individual with a disability” is one who has a disability and satisfies the requisite skill, experience, education and other requirements of the service, program or activity of which the individual is being measured and, with or without accommodations, can perform the essential functions of the service, program or activity.
An essential function is one that individuals are required to perform, and removing that function would fundamentally change the service, program or activity. A person must be a “qualified individual with a disability” to be protected under the ADA.
Proper Documentation.
Candidates requesting a change in exam procedures or processes due to disability, handicap or other reason must complete the Request for Special Exam Accommodations Form. The candidate is responsible for demonstrating that the request should be granted. The BOC will accept either of the following types of documentation:
Medical Documentation Documentation must be from an appropriate licensed professional or certified specialist who diagnosed the disability and include recommendations for reasonable accommodations. Recommendations should be based on testing that is not older than four years prior to the application. Documentation must be on the professional’s letterhead. Documentation must provide a diagnosis of the disability and the exam used to determine the disability.
